Types of Scholarships Available
Four main funding routes exist for international students in Turkey, each differing in funder, coverage and requirements.
Turkish Government Scholarships (Türkiye Bursları)
Fully funded scholarships from the Turkish government covering tuition, state-dormitory accommodation, residency permit, public health insurance (SGK), and a monthly stipend starting at ₺3,500 for undergraduates. The application window opens annually January 10 – February 20, and decisions are based on academic GPA, motivation letter and interview. Acceptance rate is between 2% and 4% — extremely competitive.
Private University Merit Scholarships
Offered directly by universities based on high-school GPA, SAT or YÖS results. They range from 25% to 50% of annual tuition and are renewed yearly conditional on maintaining a minimum university GPA (usually 2.0/4 or higher).
180 Degrees Academy Exclusive Partnership Discounts
Thanks to direct agreements with 12+ private universities in Istanbul, we unlock additional discounts of up to 70% for students who enrol through our team. These discounts are not available through direct application and are the fastest and most reliable route for students focused on minimising tuition.
Specialty-Field Scholarships
Some universities offer scholarships of up to 100% for Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Biomedical Engineering and Aviation programmes to applicants with high-school GPAs of 90%+ or top-tier standardised-test scores.
Athletic & Artistic Excellence Scholarships
A handful of universities reserve partial scholarships for talented athletes and performing artists, contingent on passing a skill assessment in front of a university panel.
How We Help You Secure the Scholarship
We follow a five-stage methodology to secure the highest possible scholarship for each student based on academic profile and budget.
- Free academic assessment. We review your original certificates, transcript and any standardised tests you have taken, then map every scholarship you qualify for across our 12+ partner universities.
- Target university shortlisting. We shortlist 3-5 universities with the best admission + scholarship probability for your major and GPA, and clarify the expected discount tier at each option.
- Winning file preparation. We craft your motivation letter, academic CV, recommendation letters and every required document in the accepted languages (English, Turkish, Arabic by university).
- Application follow-up. We handle all correspondence with admission committees until your acceptance + scholarship letter is issued, negotiating the discount tier when needed.
- Pre-payment scholarship confirmation. We verify the discount is reflected in the final enrolment contract before you pay any fees — no surprises down the line.

Application Timeline
- January – February. Government Türkiye Bursları window opens. Final deadline is normally February 20. Submit before January 31 to avoid last-day system congestion.
- March – May. Private university applications open for the Fall semester (September). Highest exclusive discount tiers are available in this window before seats fill up.
- June – August. Acceptance and scholarship letters issued. Visa preparation, dormitory booking and travel arrangements.
- September. Fall semester begins. Student residency permit (İkamet) processing within the first 30 days of arrival.
- October – December. Late applications for the Spring semester (starting in February) at select universities. Discount tiers are usually lower than Fall.
Scholarships by Field — Typical Discount Range
Scholarship percentages vary by field depending on seat demand and real programme cost. Here are the leading fields and their typical discount ranges:
Medicine
Typical discount: 25–40% — original tuition: $20,000–$30,000/year. Limited seats and 90%+ high-school GPA usually required to secure the top discount tier.
Dentistry & Pharmacy
Typical discount: 30–50% — original tuition: $15,000–$25,000/year. More flexible than Medicine in both admission and scholarship terms.
Engineering (all branches)
Typical discount: 50–70% — original tuition: $4,000–$10,000/year. Best overall discount-to-tuition ratio across all fields.
Business & Economics
Typical discount: 40–65% — original tuition: $3,500–$8,000/year. Additional scholarships for students with high IELTS scores.
Computer Science & Software Engineering
Typical discount: 50–70% — original tuition: $4,000–$9,000/year. Bonus scholarships for students from technical backgrounds or programming competitions.
Architecture & Interior Design
Typical discount: 45–60% — original tuition: $5,000–$10,000/year. Portfolio submission sometimes required for the top scholarship tiers.
Law & International Relations
Typical discount: 50–65% — original tuition: $3,500–$7,000/year. Language usually Turkish or English.
Aviation & Aeronautics
Typical discount: 25–35% — original tuition: $12,000–$20,000/year. Limited scholarships due to the high cost of practical flight training.
Türkiye Bursları — Government Scholarships in Detail
Türkiye Bursları is the flagship scholarship programme funded by the Turkish Presidency for the Turks Abroad and Related Communities, offering full coverage of tuition, state-dormitory housing, public health insurance, residency permits and a monthly stipend. Categories: Bachelor (Lisans), Master's (Yüksek Lisans), PhD (Doktora), and special research-cooperation grants. Applications are filed online at turkiyeburslari.gov.tr and require two recommendation letters, a detailed motivation letter, a graduate research plan (for postgraduate), and three preferred-university choices. Final decisions are issued between May and July. We strongly recommend applying to our partner private universities in parallel as a backup plan so you do not miss the academic year if the government scholarship is not granted.
Can You Combine Two Scholarships?
Generally a Türkiye Bursları government scholarship cannot be combined with a private-university scholarship because the former is tied to enrolment at a state university. However within a single private university you can combine the university's merit scholarship (for example 25%) with our exclusive 180 Degrees Academy partnership discount (for example an additional 50%), pushing the total discount to 75% in certain cases. This combination is only available to students enrolled through our team.

Scholarship FAQs
Are scholarships really available for every major?
Yes. Private Turkish universities offer discounts in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Engineering, Business, Computer Science, Architecture and Law. The percentage varies by field and university — see the field table above.
Do I need a language certificate to qualify?
Not always. Many universities accept a one-year English or Turkish preparatory programme; the scholarship is then applied to the academic years only and not to the preparatory year fees.
Can I combine two scholarships?
Within a single private university, yes — you can combine the university merit scholarship with our exclusive 180 Degrees Academy partnership discount. You cannot combine a government scholarship with a private-university scholarship simultaneously.
Does the scholarship cover accommodation and living costs?
Türkiye Bursları government scholarships cover accommodation, insurance and a monthly stipend. Private university scholarships usually cover tuition only, but subsidised dormitory housing is available (₺1,800–₺4,000 per month).
When should I apply to get the highest discount?
As early as possible. The best window is March–May to lock the highest discount tiers before seats fill up. Discount percentages decrease gradually as the semester start approaches.
What is the difference between 180 Degrees and university-direct scholarships?
We do not fund scholarships from our own budget — we activate exclusive partnership discounts that can reach 70% versus the 25% a student might secure on their own through direct application.
Is the scholarship renewed every year?
Yes, provided the student maintains a minimum academic GPA (usually 2.0/4 or higher). The scholarship is reduced or cancelled if GPA drops for two consecutive semesters.
Are scholarships available to all nationalities?
Yes. We serve students from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Algeria, Palestine, Syria, Morocco and many others.
Can I apply to multiple universities at once?
Yes, and we recommend it. We typically shortlist 3-5 universities to maximise admission + scholarship odds, and then we jointly choose the best offer.
What if my file is rejected at the first university?
We redirect you to another partner university free of charge. Our objective is for you to secure admission + scholarship, not a particular institution.
