This covers: food USD 150–250, transport USD 25–40 (with student discount), internet and phone USD 15–25, daily needs USD 50–100, and leisure USD 50–150. Housing is added separately and ranges from USD 200 for a dorm to USD 600 for a private apartment near universities.
Does 180 Degrees Academy charge fees for admission services?
No. The university admission service for private universities is completely free for students. Admissions and degree recognition
Do I need to pass YÖS or SAT to be admitted to Turkish universities?
No, you do not need YÖS or SAT to enroll in private universities in Turkey. Our direct partnerships with 20+ private universities in Istanbul allow immediate admission based on your high school diploma alone. State universities typically require YÖS or SAT, and we help you prepare and register for them if you target public institutions.
Are Turkish university degrees recognized in Arab countries and the Gulf?
Yes. All degrees from Turkish universities accredited by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) are officially recognized in the Gulf countries, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Libya, the Maghreb, the European Union and the United States. Medicine and Engineering programs hold additional international accreditations such as ABET and EUR-ACE.
What is the difference between state and private universities in Turkey?
State universities are cheaper (USD 250–3,000 annually) but require YÖS or SAT and have very limited quotas for international students, with most programs in Turkish. Private universities are more expensive (USD 4,000–25,000) but offer full English-language programs, instant admission without exams, modern facilities and stronger international internship opportunities. 180 Degrees Academy supports you with both options.
Degree recognition in Syria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the UAE
In Saudi Arabia and the UAE, degrees are fully accredited through the Ministry of Higher Education, with a degree equivalency requirement for Medicine and Engineering. In Egypt, the degree is recognized via the Supreme Council of Universities (takes 2–6 months). In Syria, degrees are officially recognized, especially from YÖK-accredited universities. We provide you with the updated recognized-universities list for each country before enrolment.
Residency and language
How do I obtain a student residence permit (İkamet) in Turkey?
After your university admission and arrival in Turkey, you must apply for the student residence permit within 30 days through the Migration Directorate. Requirements include certified health insurance, proof of address registration (Nüfus), the university acceptance letter, and translated and notarized personal documents. 180 Degrees Academy handles the entire process from start to finish and accompanies you on appointment day, so you never deal with bureaucracy alone.
Is Turkish language mandatory? How long is the prep year?
No, Turkish is not mandatory at most private universities since they offer fully English-language programs. For those choosing Turkish-medium programs, universities provide a free Turkish preparatory year (Hazırlık) lasting one full academic year, with 25–30 hours of language weekly, reaching C1 level. If your English is below B2 you'll join an English prep year before starting the program.
When should I apply? What is the admission timeline?
The Turkish academic year starts in September/October. We recommend applying between February and May to secure the best discounts and seats in competitive programs. June–August applications are still possible but with smaller discounts. Spring intake (January–February) is available for some programs. Early application guarantees: highest discount, widest university choice, and enough time for visa processing.
Student life and post-graduation
Are university dorms available in Istanbul? Difference between dorms and private housing?
University dorms are available at most private universities, priced at USD 200–400/month for a double room, usually including breakfast, internet and electricity. Private housing (independent apartment or shared flat) ranges between USD 350–700/month in student-friendly districts like Esenyurt, Beşiktaş and Kadıköy. Dorms are safer for the first year, while private housing offers more freedom after settling in.
Can I work in Turkey after graduation? Job opportunities for foreigners?
Yes. Turkey offers work visas for foreign graduates (Çalışma İzni) through a permit issued by the Ministry of Labour after signing an employment contract. The most in-demand sectors for foreigners are: technology and software development, international trade, tourism and hospitality, translation, foreign language teaching, and medicine (after degree equivalency). Monthly salaries for new graduates range between TRY 25,000–50,000, higher in international companies. You can also transfer from student residency to a work residency without leaving Turkey.
Can you help me before I arrive in Turkey, while I'm still in my home country?
Absolutely. Our service begins months before your arrival: free consultation for program and university selection, full preparation of required documents, application submission and official acceptance letter, visa procedure guidance, and arranging temporary or permanent accommodation. All this is done remotely via WhatsApp and video calls in multiple languages. Upon arrival, we receive you and guide you through residency and enrolment.
